I have done it! I didn't think it was possible, the gods were indeed against me. But I have now purchased my first set of NIN tickets!

This may not seem big to some, but to me it's HUGE. Back in college I attempted to see my first NIN show. I actually called Ticketmaster (how lame -- there's this thing called the Internet?) and got through finally and went through the steps with the woman on the phone and purchased tickets for the MSG show years ago. Oh, I was so happy and excited.

After some time I realized that my credit card hadn't been charged. I again called Ticketmaster. They told me that the person that had taken my order had cancelled right after, thus I had no tickets. It makes me seethe thinking about it, hold on. Breathe. OK -- I fought my way up to the manager level I was so angry and disbelieving that this could actually happen and there was nothing they could do about it. The call ended with the Ticketmaster headquarter address in Virginia -- I could write a letter.

Oh, can I? Yes, because that would definitely bring me closer to seeing Trent. Definitely. Ugh.

Since that time, I have never been able to get through on Ticketmaster to purchase NIN tickets. The second the sale starts, they are sold out.

BUT NOT THIS TIME!!!

I am now the proud owner (barring any weird stroke of bad luck) of four tickets for the June 17th show at Jones Beach!! The tickets suck, but I don't actually care for once. I just want to be there.

P.S. The extra two tickets are currently reserved for a special couple who is invited to come down for the weekend and bask in the Trentness of it all yet again....

New York minute

This morning I had one of those surreal New York city moments that I never really have. I tend to take this city for granted.

I was slowly climbing the escalator out of the Bowling Green subway stop, as Tori's "I Can't See New York" started playing on my iPod. The beginning of this song is very beautiful, and ethereal. At the top, I turned around to see everything blanketed in new snow. Battery Park in the distance, and a smaller park nearby, the trees heavy with white...soft. Everything softer. And then the voice in my ears started singing "from here no lines are drawn, from here no lands are owned..."

I guess being very close to the WTC site added to the poignancy of the moment...but I wasn't feeling sad. I was filled with a great love. Everything looked so beautiful. Everything felt quieter.

Just happy to have had that moment. Just for me.

Icons, doggies, and Tori

LOL, so excited about my new icon. It's nothing fancy, but I have been meaning to try to find or create a "Jeff" icon for a few weeks now. So here it is. If you haven't seen Coupling before, and you get BBC America, I highly suggest you give it a try. But you saw the American version of Coupling and it sucked you say? Ya, that's because IT SUCKED! I don't know who thought it would be a good idea to take a British show's exact scripts and give it to American actors...I like to think that it just never happened. But you don't "get" British comedy you say? That's ok! It's not the kind of Brit show where you can't understand anything they're saying or where you don't get any of the "in" jokes. There have only been a few instances where Eric and I didn't get the "in" joke because it related to something in British pop culture. But it doesn't even matter. The show is so sharp and the actors are so good...

Today I had my training with Mighty Mutts so I can start volunteering regularly. It was SO awesome. They have a whole set up on the corner of 14th St with donation boxes, pamphlets, merch, etc. And every Saturday the volunteers come out and they bring a couple of the dogs. As a volunteer, you sit with whatever dog you are assigned to, and make sure that they are happy and don't go after another dog or a small child :) These dogs are not all trained, and many have been abused and abandoned, therefore, you have to always be in control and always aware of what's going on around you and the dog, for everyone's safety. But the dogs were well behaved today, and I was assigned to the one that is usually the most trouble, and he was great. Every so often you take a turn walking the dog around the park to stretch their legs (and yours!) and so they can do their "business." Another great part of it is all the people coming by to donate money or food, and to stop and pet the dogs. You get to tell people about the dog and the organization and how they can help. It's great. I can't wait till next Saturday! The only thing is that it is COLD right now, and being outside that long is tough. But they have a trailer that is parked close by where they have cats for adoption, and where volunteers can warm up periodically.

On a different note, I got Tori's new album in the mail yesterday! Pre-ordered it from the Sony store, and I got it before it's even in the stores! All the songs have been available for illegal downloading for a while now, but I refused. If I'm going to support any artist, it's going to be her. Plus I always like the great artwork and packaging for Tori's stuff. This album is no exception. It's beautiful. I got the special limited edition that has a DVD and a little seed packet inside! Also came with a free poster. Haven't listened to the album yet though, so I can't give a review. I'm hoping to not be disappointed. Not that I have been in the past...ok, well, I'll admit, Strange Little Girls is not something I listen to often...OK, ever. But I enjoyed it, and liked the concept! Anyway, looking forward to listening to it soon. Once I figure out how I can play an actual CD in our teched-out apt...

I'm eating waffles right now. Fascinating.

I'm so glad that next week ends my days of being home alone and bored. And lazy. At least the depression that usually accompanies it is gone, now that I have a job lined up. But I still feel guilty about doing nothing with my days. Wasting them. Once I start working again I'll feel like I don't have time to do anything, and I'll remember all this time I had off!! Ah well. I can't go back.

Book recommendation: Vamped by David Sosnowski. A really fun, easy read, if you like vampire stories. Though it's about more than that. I really enjoyed it, so much that I read the second half of the book in one night, because I couldn't wait to find out where the story goes... He also mentions Tori several times, which is always a plus in my book. So, read it.

OK, time for me to get my butt in gear and go food shopping.
